Origins Education Forum

The Origins Education Forum is working on a number of projects in partnership with other organizations, using each organization’s expertise to obtain the maximum educational benefit.

Origins NOVA/PBS Series

The series explores the origins of the universe, solar system, Earth, life on Earth, and the search for life in the universe. The Forum is providing resources and expertise to supplement the education and public outreach offerings developed by WGBH-Boston and the Pacific Science Center.

Great Explorations in Math and Science (GEMS) Teacher Guides

GEMS Teacher Guides are clearly organized, easy to use, and do not require any special background in math or science. Each classroom session includes an overview, materials list, and preparation steps, followed by clear, step-by-step instructions for effective classroom presentation. Background information is provided for the teacher, along with photographs, illustrations, and, often, examples of student work.

Great Explorations in Math and Science (GEMS) Curriculum Sequences

The GEMS curriculum sequences are suggested ways of using a series of GEMS Teacher Guides to construct a curriculum that addresses a specific theme or related science and/or mathematics concepts. The materials can be used alone or integrated with other materials.

Special Needs

All exceptional students (young and old) are held to the same state and national math and science education standards as their peers. However, current materials are often not designed with the deaf and/or blind user in mind, or the hearing-, visually-, and mobility-impaired student, or those with learning disabilities. The Southeast Regional Clearinghouse (SERCH) has been working with teachers from these exceptional classroom settings to identify the kinds of materials they need and which mediums will work best for the different student capabilities.

Alien Earths Exhibit

Alien Earths: Searching for Planets and Life Around Distant Stars is currently under development by the Space Science Institute. This 3,000 square-foot traveling exhibition will explore the awesome events surrounding the birth of stars and planets. Join scientists in the hunt for planets outside our solar system; uncover the wide range of conditions for life on Earth; and get current research on how scientists are looking for signs of life beyond Earth.

Night Sky Network

The Night Sky Network, founded by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory's PlanetQuest program, is a nationwide coalition of astronomy clubs bringing the science and inspiration of NASA's missions to the public.
